The last two years have been anything but business as usual for our communities and transport networks. We have seen significant shifts in travel behaviour, as discussed at other recent AITPM forums we understand some of these shifts may continue to impact on user behaviours. Recent, rapid increases in levels of traffic on our road network may have long term implications for modal shift. It’s timely to discuss the potential of road pricing to help bring balance to our transport network. It is important to consider the implication of wider technology change particularly electric vehicles on modal shift at the same time.
The AITPM Victorian branch in collaboration with the South Australian branch is pleased to present a range of views and discussion on road pricing and the potential impacts and opportunities for transport operation and road users in Victoria.
Emily Coldbeck from the Victorian DoT will introduce the topic and host the session on behalf of the AITPM Victorian Committee, with the following experts in road pricing:
- Peter Kartsidimas, Director Networks & Planning at Infrastructure Victoria, discussing policy positions relating to road and mobility pricing.
- Marion Terrill, Transport and Cities Program Director at the Grattan Institute, reflecting on the Grattan’s 2019 consideration of congestion charging, and some potential solutions for Melbourne.
- Darryn Paterson, General Manager Strategy & Analysis at Transurban, providing some insight into real world response to variable pricing and perspectives on wider pricing and mobility implications.
- Mark Borlace, Senior Manager - Future Mobility RAA South Australia bringing a road users perspective and consideration of the electric vehicle levy in South Australia.
