5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Please join us at the DPTI Offices, 77 Grenfell Street, Adelaide from 5:30pm April 12th for non-alcoholic drinks and light refreshments with the Technical forum starting at 6pm.
The DPTI – Traffic Management Division faced a number of challenges in managing traffic flow during February and March 2017. Existing traffic conditions have been affected by construction activities and major events organised over this period. This presentation will highlight challenges and solutions applied to improve traffic flows.
In the last two decades Traffic Management Centres around the world have seen major shifts in their roles and supporting technologies. As volumes on the network have increased, capacities of the world’s roads have reached critical mass. Accordingly, the role of Incident management within TMC’s has become a major priority. TMC’s are Critical Infrastructure assets that also provide support to emergency service activities. The TMC in Adelaide is a highly effective unit that punches far above its weight in international circles. This is mainly due to strategic thinking about resource magnifying an operator by using intuitive tools and bespoke Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technologies. These technologies and TMC resources will be presented at the meeting.
The topic will be presented by Michael Southern, Team Leader Operations Room at the Traffic Management Centre, Norwood.
Michael started work with the then TSA in 1998 in the newly constructed Traffic Management Centre (TMC) at Norwood. As one of the initial six operators, he witnessed the rapid growth of the TMC. Michael has been working within the TMC for 16 years working his way from operator through to Team Leader now managing a group of 15 vibrant staff.
