Bicycle Boulevards: Scheme Progress and New Initiatives

Colin Maher (DPTI) and Chris Dunn (SA Branch President, City of Mitcham) recently attended a two day workshop on Bicycle Boulevards held in WA. The workshop followed the recent launch of WA’s first Bicycle Boulevards along a number of local streets in Inner Metro Perth. Colin will present case studies of the WA bicycle boulevards, including photos and videos of the designs, and consider learnings from WA that may be applicable in SA.

Meanwhile our own Bicycle Boulevard program and Bicycle network upgrades are progressing. Paul Simons from Tonkin will provide an update on the Braund Road, Prospect scheme, outlining some of the challenges faced and how the final design has responded to and overcome these whilst still achieving the desired Bicycle Boulevard outcome. Satyen Gandhi from the City of Unley will outline the process and design behind recently approved upgrades to the popular Rugby and Porter Streets bike route that will significantly improve the route continuity for cyclists within Unley and link to the proposed upgrades in to the City of Mitcham to form the Belair to City bike route.

Please join us to hear how our suburban bicycle networks are shaping up.
