About this event
Connecting with industry and learning about the future opportunities ahead of you is a core part of the university experience. As such, AITPM has built this event to assist you with insights into your post-graduation pathways and opportunities across the Transport field.
With industry representatives with expertise in Planning, Modelling, and Engineering from across academia, private, and public sector work here in Brisbane, this event will give you a leg up in your future pathways no matter what your interests and aspirations may be.
The event will also feature an extended Q&A portion with our speakers for you to ask every question you can think of to really leverage their collective knowledge and wisdom. Speakers
Samira Namin | Technical Director – Electrical Engineering | GHD
With over 20 years of professional experience across Australia and abroad in advanced Intelligent Transport Systems, Samira has established an incredible knowledge of this emerging and impactful field within the Transportation Industry.
Throughout these years, she has worked across a wide range of public and private organisations here in Queensland ranging from Brisbane City Council and TMR to Aurecon and GHD.
She is a proud member of AITPM, ITS Australia, and NAWIC (The National Association of Women in Construction), and she is well worth to learn more about and learn more from.
Nathan Durnin | Associate Transport Planner / Project Manager |WSP
With over 19 years of experience as a Transport Planner through WSP and 17+ years as a Guest Lecturer and Tutor for Transport Planning at QUT, Nathan Durnin understands the Transport Planning field here in Queensland better than most.
Through his work at WSP he regularly manages complex small- and large-scale projects for his clientele, developing business cases, and seeing these works through as a Project Manager. He specialises in strategic transport planning and transport impact investigations that help shape how changes to our lived environment impact our day to day lives (and commute).
And if that wasn’t enough, he’s also our QLD Branch Secretary.
Berino Lorio |Transport Planner / Modeller | SMEC
Berino is a transportation planner and traffic engineer with over 23 years of experience in the industry. Though Berino is academically and professionally specialised in both Intelligent Transport Systems and in Transport Modelling, his passion for the latter has been especially clear ever since he early days.
Over his career, Berino has learned and used (to a greater or lesser extent) just about any commercial transport modelling package you can think of and has lived and worked across the United Kingdom and South Africa as well as here in Australia.
He has been involved in and led a wide range of modelling projects over these years with model types ranging from strategic, mesoscopic, and microsimulation, and settings varying from large metropolitan areas to small regional towns.
Some of his career highlights include modelling of congestion charge zones in London, freeway management across South Africa, protected bicycle lane microsimulation in Melbourne, and even airport design demand modelling north of Durban.
Kirsty Bilton | Director | Department of Transport and Main Roads
Kirsty Bilton is our local and state government superstar of this event with an incredible 15+ years of experience in the Transport and Traffic world's public sector through roles at the Brisbane City Council, the Ipswich City Council, the City of Gold Coast, and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.
With ample professional experience supported by continuous studies in both Traffic and Transport Studies as well as Business Administration, Kirsty is universally well regarded for her technical knowledge and managerial capabilities.
She is also well known and well respected within the industry engagement and advocacy spaces with notable involvement in technical communities such as AITPM, IPWEAQ and Transport Australia Society, as well as gender equity programs ‘Dream Big’ and ‘UniQ You’ throughout the course of her career.
So, if you’re looking to step into the public sector or just have a passion for transport management and traffic lights, Kirsty Bilton is a phenomenal individual to learn from at this event.
