He will introduce the new QRSTUV: Guide to Safe System Assessment, Queensland’s latest guidance on the topic, and explore the practical tools available to support practitioners in applying SSA methodology effectively.

Michael Gillies is a senior road safety expert and traffic engineering professional with extensive experience in transport planning and safety practices. He leads a team of specialists within TMR’s Engineering and Technology Branch, focusing on the Safe System approach and long-term road safety goals for Queensland. His work involves developing road safety guidelines and strategies as well as conducting applied research to enhance safety outcomes across the state's road network.
