Unique applications of transport modelling | VIC YPN | 29 Aug 2023
The AITPM VIC Young Professionals is proud to host this webinar showcasing unique applications of transport modelling. In this webinar, Veitch Lister Consulting and Aimsun will discuss the interesting uses of their transport models in alternative contexts.
#1. Veitch Lister Consulting Presentation
This presentation will focus on VLC's work in the Outdoor Advertising Industry. VLC has been commissioned to build models which estimate the 365 travel patterns for all residents and visitors across and to Australia. The models being built build upon traditional modelling frameworks using elements of activity based modelling, machine learning and data fusion. Join us to learn more about this area of work.
#2. Aimsun Presentation
An overseas study of new mobility solutions and their impacts. This will consider:
- Safety aspects of Active Mobility Users (AMU) and Personal Mobility Devices (PMD) along with their impact on the road environment (i.e. competing priorities of road users).
- Leveraging a simulation environment (Aimsun Next) to establish a quantifiable measure of safety (which is a function of accident likelihood and accident severity).
- Informing or help quantify 'safety by design'.
Our speakers:
Brendan Robinson, Consultant | VLC
Brendan graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Mathematics in 2021, majoring in Operations Research. Since joining VLC in 2022, he has contributed to the development of a national Activity Based Model, and the process of calibrating outputs to match real-world count data, to predict hourly volumes for outdoor advertisement across the country.
Matt Richards, Senior Consultant | VLC
Matt is a senior consultant at VLC working as a model and software developer. He has been heavily involved in the delivery of the next-generation MOVE 2.0 Audience Measurement System where he has been central to the development of the activity-based model and led the delivery of the synthetic population generation. Matt is also an active participant in the geospatial open-source software community, where he has been a maintainer of the popular Python geospatial data analysis library GeoPandas since 2021. He also has research experience in transport modelling, having authored a paper on applying machine learning to mode choice estimation and an honours thesis on a link-based formulation to estimating route choice models.
Andrew Li, Transport Modeller | Aimsun
Andrew joined the Professionals Services team at Aimsun (Sydney office) in 2019 and is currently a transport modeller (specialising in Aimsun Next and Aimsun Live).
